And the priests and the prophets spoke to the princes and to all the people, saying: The judgement of death is for this man, because he hath prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears.

And the princes said to the king: We beseech thee that this man may be put to death: for on purpose he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city and the hands of the people, speaking to them according to these words. For this man seeketh not peace to this people, but evil.

What think you? But they answering, said: He is guilty of death.

But the prophet, who being corrupted with pride shall speak in my name things that I did not command him to say, or in the name of strange gods, shall be slain.

And they heard him until this word, and then lifted up their voice, saying: Away with such an one from the earth; for it is not fit that he should live.

The Jews answered him: We have a law; and according to the law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.

They answered, and said to him: If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up to thee.

But thou, O Lord, knowest all their counsel against me unto death. Forgive not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from thy sight. Let them be overthrown before thy eyes: in the time of thy wrath do thou destroy them.

Then the princes and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets: There is no judgement of death for this man: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.

And they said to Joas: Bring out thy son hither, that he may die; because he hath destroyed the altar of Baal, and hath cut down his grove.
