The Lord also said to Moses: Go up into this mountain Abarim: and view from thence the land which I will give to the children of Israel.

Therefore, Ooliba, thus saith the Lord God: Behold, I will raise up against thee all thy lovers with whom thy soul hath been glutted: and I will gather them together against thee round about.

Beth. Weeping she hath wept in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks. There is none to comfort her among all them that were dear to her: all her friends have despised her and are become her enemies.

Therefore have I delivered her into the hands of her lovers, into the hands of the sons of the Assyrians, upon whose lust she doted.

Coph. I called for my friends, but they deceived me: my priests and my ancients pined away in the city, while they sought their food to relieve their souls.

The wind shall feed all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into captivity: and then shalt thou be confounded and ashamed of all thy wickedness.

But when thou art spoiled, what wilt though do? Though thou clothest with scarlet, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, and paintest thy eyes with stibic stone, thou shalt dress thyself out in vain: thy lovers have despised thee, they will seek thy life.

How exceeding base art thou become, going the same ways over again! And thou shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.

And the king of Egypt came not again any more out of his own country: for the king of Babylon had taken all that had belonged to the king of Egypt, from the river of Egypt, unto the river Euphrates.

Go up into this mountain Abarim (that is to say, of passages), unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab over against Jericho. And see the land of Chanaan, which I will deliver to the children of Israel to possess. And die thou in the mountain.

When thou shalt cry, let thy companies deliver thee: but the wind shall carry them all off, a breeze shall take them away. But he that putteth his trust in me shall inherit the land and shall possess my holy mount.

Keep thy foot from being bare and thy throat from thirst. But thou saidst: I have lost all hope, I will not do it: for I have loved strangers and I will walk after them.

It is commonly said: If a man put away his wife, and she go from him and marry another man, shall he return to her any more? Shall not that woman be polluted and defiled? But thou hast prostituted thyself to many lovers. Nevertheless return to me, saith the Lord, and I will receive thee.

They have cut thy oars out of the oaks of Basan: and they have made thee benches of Indian ivory and cabins with things brought from the islands of Italy.

For from thence thou shalt go, and thy hand shall be upon thy head: for the Lord hath destroyed thy trust, and thou shalt have nothing prosperous therein.
