And I will repay first their double iniquities and their sins: because they have defiled my land with the carcasses of their idols, and they have filled my inheritance with their abominations.

And came to Moses and Aaron and to all the assembly of the children of Israel to the desert of Pharan, which is in Cades. And speaking to them and to all the multitude, they shewed them the fruits of the land.

Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it with their ways, and with their doings: their way was before me like the uncleanness of a menstruous woman.

And by the facility of her fornication she defiled the land and played the harlot with stones and with stocks.

It is commonly said: If a man put away his wife, and she go from him and marry another man, shall he return to her any more? Shall not that woman be polluted and defiled? But thou hast prostituted thyself to many lovers. Nevertheless return to me, saith the Lord, and I will receive thee.

Arise ye, and depart, for there is no rest here for you. For that uncleanness of the land, it shall be corrupted with a grievous corruption.

In that day, I lifted up my hand for them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt, into a land which I had provided for them, flowing with milk and honey, which excelleth amongst all lands.

And they took strong cities and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all goods: cisterns made by others, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit trees in abundance. And they ate, and were filled, and became fat, and abounded with delight in thy great goodness.

His body shall not remain upon the tree, but shall be buried the same day. For he is accursed of God that hangeth on a tree: and thou shalt not defile thy land, which the Lord thy God shall give thee in possession.

And do that which is pleasing and good in the sight of the Lord: that it may be well with thee: and going in thou mayst possess the goodly land, concerning which the Lord swore to thy fathers,

Lift up thy eyes on high, and see where thou hast not prostuted thyself. Thou didst sit in the ways, waiting for them as a robber in the wilderness: and thou hast polluted the land with thy fornications and with thy wickedness.

And they came in and possessed it: but they obeyed not thy voice and they walked not in thy law. And they did not any of those things that thou didst command them to do: and all these evils are come upon them.

For the children of Israel and the children of Juda have continually done evil in my eyes from their youth: the children of Israel who even till now provoke me with the work of their hands, saith the Lord.

And I had brought them into the land for which I lifted up my hand to give it them. They saw every high hill, and every shady tree, and there they sacrificed their victims: and there they presented the provocation of their offerings and there they set their sweet odours and poured forth their libations.

They shall not dwell in the Lord's land: Ephraim is returned to Egypt, and hath eaten unclean things among the Assyrians.

But the Lord's portion is his people: Jacob the lot of his inheritance.

But they provoked thee to wrath, and departed from thee, and threw thy law behind their backs. And they killed thy prophets, who admonished them earnestly to return to thee. And they were guilty of great blasphemies.

Which the Lord of hosts hath blessed, saying: Blessed be my people of Egypt, and the work of my hands to the Assyrian. But Israel is my inheritance.

Because they had not done my judgments and had cast off my statutes and had violated my sabbaths, and their eyes had been after the idols of their fathers.

Therefore thus saith the Lord God: Because thou hast forgotten me and hast cast me off behind thy back, bear thou also thy wickedness and thy fornications.
