Let a cry be heard out of their houses: for thou shalt bring the robber upon them suddenly, because they have digged a pit to take me and have hid snares for my feet.
Gird thee with sackcloth, O daughter of my people, and sprinkle thee with ashes: make thee mourning as for an only son, a bitter lamentation, because the destroyer shall suddenly come upon us.
The just shall correct me in mercy, and shall reprove me: but let not the oil of the sinner fatten my head. For my prayer also shall still be against the things with which they are well pleased:
For I heard the reproaches of many, and terror on every side: Persecute him, and, let us persecute him: from all the men that were my familiars and continued at my side: if by any means he may be deceived and we may prevail against him and be revenged on him.
Shall evil be rendered for good, because they have digged a pit for my soul? Remember that I have stood in thy sight, to speak good for them and turn away thy indignation from them.
For I have heard the voice as of a woman in travail, anguishes as of a woman in labor of a child. The voice of the daughter of Sion, dying away, spreading her hands: Woe is me, for my soul hath fainted because of them that are slain.
