Though thou wash thyself with nitre and multiply to thyself the herb borith, thou art stained in thy iniquity before me, saith the Lord God.

And a man shall mock his brother, and they will not speak the truth: for they have taught their tongue to speak lies, they have laboured to commit iniquity.

The heart is perverse above all things and unsearchable. Who can know it?

O Lord, thy eyes are upon truth: thou hast struck them, and they have not grieved: thou hast bruised them, and they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than the rock and they have refused to return.

In vain have I struck your children: they have not received correction. Your sword hath devoured your prophets: your generation is like a ravaging lion.

For what shall I strike you any more, you that increase transgression? the whole head is sick, and the whole heart is sad.

Though thou shouldst bray a fool in the mortar, as when a pestle striketh upon sodden barley, his folly would not be taken from him.

For my foolish people have not known me: they are foolish and senseless children. They are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

And when this was told Saul he sent other messengers: but they also prophesied. And again Saul sent messengers the third time: and they prophesied also. And Saul being exceedingly angry,

But they did not hearken: but did according to their old custom.

The perverse are hard to be corrected, and the number of fools is infinite.
