But without faith it is impossible to please God. For he that cometh to God, must believe that he is, and is a rewarder to them that seek him.

Well: because of unbelief they were broken off. But thou standest by faith: be not highminded, but fear.

And the Lord spoke again to Achaz, saying:

And all the people of Ephraim shall know, and the inhabitants of Samaria, that say in the pride and haughtiness of their heart:

Azarias the son of Osaias and Johanan the son of Caree and all the proud men made answer, saying to Jeremias: Thou tellest a lie. The Lord our God hath not sent thee, saying: Go not into Egypt to dwell there.

For the wickedness of Jacob is all this, and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the wickedness of Jacob? is it not Samaria? and what are the high places of Juda? are they not Jerusalem?

WOE to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, and to the fading flower, the glory of his joy, who were on the head of the fat valley, staggering with wine.
