Look down from heaven and behold from thy holy habitation and the place of thy glory. Where is thy zeal and thy strength, the multitude of thy bowels and of thy mercies? They have held back themselves from me.

Surely Ephraim is an honourable son to me, surely he is a tender child: for since I spoke of him, I will still remember him. Therefore are my bowels troubled for him: pitying, I will pity him, saith the Lord.

Look from thy sanctuary, and thy high habitation of heaven, and bless thy people Israel, and the land which thou hast given us, as thou didst swear to our fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.

Is it then to be thought that God should indeed dwell upon earth? For if heaven, and the heavens of heavens cannot contain thee, how much less this house which I have built?

They are multiplied above the hairs of my head, who hate me without cause. My enemies are grown strong who have wrongfully persecuted me: then did I pay that which I took not away.

Wherefore my bowels shall sound like a harp for Moab, and my inward parts for the brick wall.

For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and salvation from mount Sion. The zeal of the Lord of hosts shall do this.

The Lord shall go forth as a mighty man: as a man of war shall he stir up zeal. He shall shout and cry: he shall prevail against his enemies.

Wilt thou refrain thyself, O Lord, upon these things? Wilt thou hold thy peace and afflict us vehemently?

The Lord hath been zealous for his land, and hath spared his people.

They kept not the covenant of God: and in his law they would not walk.

I should soon have humbled their enemies, and laid my hand on them that troubled them.
