You stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do you also.

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God: whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption.

And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand, and with a strong arm, and in fury, and in indignation, and in great wrath.

But they provoked me and would not hearken to me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of his eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt. And I said I would pour out my indignation upon them and accomplish my wrath against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name, for it is good in the sight of thy saints.

But their children provoked me, they walked not in my commandments nor observed my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall live in them: and they violated my sabbaths. And I threatened to pour out my indignation upon them and to accomplish my wrath in them in the desert.

And they that are saved of you shall remember me amongst the nations to which they are carried captives: because I have broken their heart that was faithless and revolted from me and their eyes that went afornicating after their idols: and they shall be displeased with themselves because of the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.

And thou shalt speak my words to them, if perhaps they will hear and forbear: for they provoke me to anger.

Remember not our former iniquities: let thy mercies speedily prevent us, for we are become exceeding poor.

And thou didst admonish them to return to thy law. But they dealt proudly, and hearkened not to thy commandments, but sinned against thy judgments, which if a man do, he shall live in them. And they withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear.

Remember, and forget not how thou provokedst the Lord thy God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that thou camest out of Egypt unto this place, thou hast always strove against the Lord.

Take notice of him, and hear his voice, and do not think him one to be contemned: for he will not forgive when thou hast sinned, and my name is in him.

And Moses said: In the evening the Lord will give you flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for he hath heard your murmurings, with which you have murmured against him. For what are we? Your murmuring is not against us, but against the Lord.

And the people murmured against Moses, saying: What shall we drink?

But when the king had heard of it, he was angry, and sending his armies, he destroyed those murderers, and burnt their city.

But the house of Israel provoked me in the desert: they walked not in my statutes and they cast away my judgments, which if a man do he shall live in them, and they grievously violated my sabbaths. I said therefore that I would pour out my indignation upon them in the desert and would consume them.

And saying: Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious people that hath revolted from me. They and their fathers have transgressed my covenant even unto this day.

Res. Behold, O Lord, for I am in distress, my bowels are troubled: my heart is turned within me, for I am full of bitterness: abroad the sword destroyeth and at home there is death alike.

Sade. The Lord is just, for I have provoked his mouth to wrath: hear, I pray you, all ye people, and see my sorrow: my virgins and my young men are gone into captivity.

All thy lovers have forgotten thee and will not seek after thee: for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with a cruel chastisement: by reason of the multitude of thy iniquities, thy sins are hardened.

I have spread forth my hands all the day to an unbelieving people, who walk in a way that is not good after their own thoughts.

Hear, O ye heavens, and give ear, O earth, for the Lord hath spoken. I have brought up children, and exalted them: but they have despised me.

But they provoked thee to wrath, and departed from thee, and threw thy law behind their backs. And they killed thy prophets, who admonished them earnestly to return to thee. And they were guilty of great blasphemies.

They have quickly strayed from the way which thou didst shew them: and they have made to themselves a molten calf, and have adored it, and sacrificing victims to it, have said: These are thy gods, O Israel, that have brought thee out of the land of Egypt.

And God turned, and gave them up to serve the host of heaven, as it is written in the books of the prophets: Did you offer victims and sacrifices to me for forty years, in the desert, O house of Israel?

It repented him that he had made man on the earth. And being touched inwardly with sorrow of heart,

He hath turned rivers into a wilderness: and the sources of water into dry ground:

And he remembered the days of old, of Moses and of his people: Where is he that brought them up out of the sea, with the shepherds of his flock? Where is he that put in the midst of them the spirit of his Holy One?

For the children of Israel and the children of Juda have continually done evil in my eyes from their youth: the children of Israel who even till now provoke me with the work of their hands, saith the Lord.

Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast provoked me in all these things: wherefore I also have turned thy ways upon thy head, saith the Lord God, and I have not done according to thy wicked deeds in all thy abominations.

And you would not go up, but being incredulous to the word of the Lord our God,

Who came to the children of Ruben, and of Gad, and the half tribe of Manasses, into the land of Galaad, and said to them:

And in the fifth year of the reign of Roboam, Sesac king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem (because they had sinned against the Lord)

Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?
