The holy man is perished out of the earth, and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood, every one hunteth his brother to death.

And therefore the Lord slew him, because he did a detestable thing.

And many of them said: He hath a devil, and is mad: why hear you him?

How is the faithful city, that was full of judgment, become a harlot? justice dwelt in it, but now murderers.

That justify the wicked for gifts, and take away the justice of the just from him.

To oppress the poor in judgment, and do violence to the cause of the humble of my people: that widows might be their prey, and that they might rob the fatherless.

That made men sin by word, and supplanted him that reproved them in the gate, and declined in vain from the just.

The vessels of the deceitful are most wicked: for he hath framed devices to destroy the meek with lying words, when the poor man speaketh judgment.

There is none that calleth upon justice, neither is there any one that judgeth truly: but they trust in a mere nothing and speak vanities. They have conceived labour and brought forth iniquity.

They have hated him that rebuketh in the gate: and have abhorred him that speaketh perfectly.

I have brought my justice near: it shall not be afar off, and my salvation shall not tarry. I will give salvation in Sion and my glory in Israel.

I will number you in the sword, and you shall all fall by slaughter: because I called and you did not answer, I spoke, and you did not hear. And you did evil in my eyes: and you have chosen the things that displease me.

Wherefore, I also will choose their mockeries and will bring upon them the things they feared: because I called and there was none that would answer, I have spoken and they heard not; and they have done evil in my eyes and have chosen the things that displease me.

Lamed. To destroy a man wrongfully in his judgment, the Lord hath not approved.
