I was angry with my people, I have polluted my inheritance and have given them into thy hand. Thou hast shewn no mercy to them: upon the ancient thou hast laid thy yoke exceeding heavy.

And I am angry with a great anger with the wealthy nations: for I was angry a little, but they helped forward the evil.

At that time there was a prophet of the Lord there, whose name was Oded. And he went out to meet the army that came to Samaria, and said to them: Behold, the Lord the God of your fathers, being angry with Juda, hath delivered them into your hands, and you have butchered them cruelly, so that your cruelty hath reached up to heaven.

A most insolent nation, that will shew no regard to the ancients, nor have pity on the infant:

For the slaughter, and for the iniquity against thy brother Jacob, confusion shall cover thee, and thou shalt perish for ever.

For judgment without mercy to him that hath not done mercy. And mercy exalteth itself above judgment.

For as you have drunk upon my holy mountain, so all nations shall drink continually: and they shall drink, and sup up, and they shall be as though they were not.

That made the world a wilderness and destroyed the cities thereof, that opened not the prison to his prisoners?

I will send him to a deceitful nation: and I will give him a charge against the people of my wrath, to take away the spoils, and to lay hold on the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again.

By the multitude of thy merchandise, thy inner parts were filled with iniquity, and thou hast sinned: and I cast thee out from the mountain of God, and destroyed thee, O covering cherub, out of the midst of the stones of fire.

Speak to the house of Israel: Thus saith the Lord God: Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the glory of your realm and the thing that your eyes desire, and for which your soul feareth: your sons, and your daughters, whom you have left, shall fall by the sword.

Beth. The Lord hath cast down headlong and hath not spared all that was beautiful in Jacob: he hath destroyed in his wrath the strongholds of the virgin of Juda and brought them down to the ground: he hath made the kingdom unclean, and the princes thereof.

And I have profaned the holy princes: I have given Jacob to slaughter and Israel to reproach.

Their infants shall be dashed in pieces before their eyes, their houses shall be pillaged, and their wives shall be ravished.

And David said to Gad: I am in a great strait: but it is better that I should fall into the hands of the Lord (for his mercies are many) than into the hands of men.

That struck the people in wrath with an incurable wound, that brought nations under in fury, that persecuted in a cruel manner.

They shall take the bow and the shield: they are cruel and unmerciful. Their voice shall roar like the sea and they shall ride upon horses, like a man prepared for battle: against thee, O daughter of Babylon.

Nun. The yoke of my iniquities hath watched: they are folded together in his hand and put upon my neck. My strength is weakened: the Lord hath delivered me into a hand out of which I am not able to rise.

Sin. They have heard that I sigh, and there is none to comfort me: all my enemies have heard of my evil, they have rejoiced that thou hast done it. Thou hast brought a day of consolation, and they shall be like unto me.

The princes were hanged up by their hand: they did not respect the persons of the ancient.

My father laid upon you a heavy yoke: and I will add more weight to it. My father beat you with scourges: but I will beat you with scorpions.

For he brought upon them the king of the Chaldeans: and he slew their young men with the sword in the house of his sanctuary. He had no compassion on young man, or maiden, old man, or even him that stooped for age; but he delivered them all into his hands.

Whosoever escaped the sword, was led into Babylon: and there served the king and his sons till the reign of the king of Persia.

But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven to wrath, he delivered them into the hands of Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon the Chaldean: and he destroyed this house, and carried away the people to Babylon.

Phe. The face of the Lord hath divided them, he will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, neither had they pity on the ancient.

And the angel of the Lord answered, and said: O Lord of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem, and on the cities of Juda, with which thou hast been angry? this is now the seventieth year.
