They bear him on their shoulders and carry him and set him in his place: and he shall stand and shall not stir out of his place. Yea, when they shall cry also unto him, he shall not hear: he shall not save them from tribulation.

Assemble yourselves, and come, and draw near together, ye that are saved of the Gentiles. They have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven work and pray to a god that cannot save.

They are framed after the likeness of a palm-tree, and shall not speak: they must be carried to be removed, because they cannot go. Therefore fear them not, for they can neither do evil nor good.

You know that when you were heathens, you went to dumb idols, according as you were led.

He hath chosen strong wood, and that will not rot: the skilful workman seeketh how he may set up an idol that may not be moved.

The coppersmith striking with the hammer encouraged him that forged at that time, saying: It is ready for soldering. And he strengthened it with nails, that it should not be moved.

And I saw: and there was no one even among them to consult, or who, when I asked, could answer a word.

The smith hath wrought with his file: with coals and with hammers he hath formed it, and hath wrought with the strength of his arm. He shall hunger and faint, he shall drink no water, and shall be weary.

Such are all the things become to thee, in which thou best laboured: thy merchants from thy youth, every one hath erred in his own way. There is none that can save thee.

And after midday was past, and while they were prophesying, the time was come of offering sacrifice: and there was no voice heard, nor did any one answer, nor regard them as they prayed.

Behold, they are all in the wrong, and their works are vain: their idols are wind and vanity.

And the cities of Juda and the inhabitants of Jerusalem shall go and cry to the gods to whom they offer sacrifice: and they shall not save them in the time of their affliction.
