AND it came to pass, when king Ezechias had heard it, that he rent his garments and covered himself with sackcloth and went into the house of the Lord.
And Eliacim the son of Helcias, that was over the house, and Sobna the scribe, and Joahe the son of Asaph the recorder, went in to Ezechias, with their garments rent, and told him the words of Rabsaces.
And at the evening sacrifice I rose up from my affliction, and having rent my mantle and my garment, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands to the Lord my God:
Woe to thee, Corozain, woe to thee, Bethsaida: for if in Tyre and Sidon had been wrought the miracles that have been wrought in you, they had long ago done penance in sackcloth and ashes.
Did Ezechias king of Juda and all Juda condemn him to death? Did they not fear the Lord and beseech the face of the Lord? And the Lord repented of the evil that they had spoken against them. Therefore we are doing a great evil against our souls.
And Ezechias took the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it, and went up to the house of the Lord: and Ezechias spread it before the Lord.
