For when they shall say, peace and security; then shall sudden destruction come upon them, as the pains upon her that is with child, and they shall not escape.

And the angel of the Lord went out, and slew in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand. And they arose in the morning, and behold, they were all dead corpses.

Therefore shall this iniquity be to you as a breach that falleth and is found wanting in a high wall. For the destruction thereof shall come on a sudden, when it is not looked for.

And the Assyrian shall fall by the sword, not of a man, and the sword, not of a man, shall devour him: and he shall flee, not at the face of the sword. And his young men shall be tributaries.

Egypt is man, and not God: and their horses, flesh, and not spirit. And the Lord shall put down his hand, and the helper shall fall, and he that is helped shall fall, and they shall all be confounded together.

Thou shalt bring down the tumult of strangers, as heat in thirst: and as with heat under a burning cloud, thou shalt make the branch of the mighty to wither away.

He hath devised iniquity on his bed, he hath set himself on every way that is not good: but evil he hath not hated.

Not so the wicked, not so: but like the dust, which the wind driveth from the face of the earth.

They shall be as chaff before the face of the wind, and as ashes which the whirlwind scattereth.

And I will visit the evils of the world, and against the wicked for their iniquity: and I will make the pride of infidels to cease, and will bring down the arrogancy of the mighty.

Therefore shall a strong people praise thee: the city of mighty nations shall fear thee.

Because thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the whirlwind, a shadow from the heat. For the blast of the mighty is like a whirlwind beating against a wall.

For he that did prevail hath failed; the scorner is consumed; and they are all cut off that watched for iniquity:

Behold, the Gentiles are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the smallest grain of a balance: behold, the islands are as a little dust.

Behold, all that fight against thee shall be confounded and ashamed: they shall be as nothing; and the men shall perish that strive against thee.

I have made thee as a new thrashing wain, with teeth like a saw. Thou shall thrash the mountains, and break them in pieces: and shalt make the hills as chaff.

Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them. And thou shalt rejoice in the Lord: in the Holy One of Israel thou shalt be joyful.

Evil shall come upon thee: and then shalt not know the rising thereof. And calamity shall fall violently upon thee, which thou canst not keep off. Misery shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.

The former things of old I have declared. And they went forth out of my mouth, and I have made them to be heard. I did them suddenly, and they came to pass:

He that with a smile bringeth destruction upon the strong, and waste upon the mighty.
