Thou hast been favourable to the nation, O Lord: thou hast been favourable to the nation. Art thou glorified? Thou hast removed all the ends of the earth far off.
Thou hast multiplied the nation, and hast not increased the joy. They shall rejoice before thee, as they that rejoice in the harvest, as conquerors rejoice after taking a prey, when they divide the spoils.
A third part of thee shall die with the pestilence and shall be consumed with famine in the midst of thee: and a third part of thee shall fall by the sword round about thee: and a third part of thee will I scatter into every wind, and I will draw out a sword after them.
Behold, I will gather them together out of all the lands to which I have cast them out in my anger and in my wrath and in my great indignation: and I will bring them again into this place and will cause them to dwell securely.
And out of them shall come forth praise and the voice of them that play: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be made few: and I will glorify them, and they shall not be lessened.
Give praise, O ye heavens, for the Lord hath shewn mercy: shout with joy, ye ends of the earth: Ye mountains, resound with praise, thou, O forest, and every tree therein: for the Lord hath redeemed Jacob, and Israel shall be glorified.
And thou didst multiply their children as the stars of heaven: and broughtest them to the land concerning which thou hadst said to their fathers, that they should go in and possess it.
And they shall fall by the edge of the sword; and shall be led away captives into all nations; and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles; till the times of the nations be fulfilled.
For if thy people, O Israel, shall be as the sand of the sea, a remnant of them shall be converted: the consumption abridged shall overflow with justice.
And the Lord said: I will remove Juda also from before my face, as I have removed Israel. And I will cast off this city Jerusalem, which I chose, and the house, of which I said: My name shall be there.
Till the Lord removed Israel from his face, as he had spoken in the hand of all his servants the prophets. And Israel was carried away out of their land to Assyria, unto this day.
And in the ninth year of Osee, the king of the Assyrians took Samaria, and carried Israel away to Assyria. And he placed them in Hala and Habor by the river of Gozan, in the cities of the Medes.
But if they sin against thee (for there is no man who sinneth not) and thou being angry deliver them up to their enemies, so that they be led away captives into the land of their enemies far or near:
The Lord shall scatter thee among all people, from the farthest parts of the earth to the ends thereof. And there thou shalt serve strange gods, which both thou art ignorant of and thy fathers, wood and stone.
The Lord make thee to fall down before thy enemies. One way mayst thou go out against them, and flee seven ways, and be scattered throughout all the kingdoms of the earth.
