Because the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and highminded, and upon every one that is arrogant: and he shall be humbled.

For behold the day shall come kindled as a furnace: and all the proud, and all that do wickedly shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall set them on fire, saith the Lord of hosts, it shall not leave them root, nor branch.

The Lord of hosts hath designed it, to pull down the pride of all glory and bring to disgrace all the glorious ones of the earth.

Because every one that exalteth himself, shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.

Every proud man is an abomination to the Lord: though hand should be joined to hand, he is not innocent. The beginning of a good way is to do justice; and this is more acceptable with God, than to offer sacrifices.

But he giveth greater grace. Wherefore he saith: God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

For yourselves know perfectly, that the day of the Lord shall so come, as a thief in the night.

To deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled: and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

Behold I will send you Elias the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

Woe to them that desire the day of the Lord: to what end is it for you? the day of the Lord is darkness, and not light.

You have not gone up to face the enemy, nor have you set up a wall for the house of Israel, to stand in battle in the day of the Lord.

Behold, the day of the Lord shall come, a cruel day, and full of indignation, and of wrath, and fury, to lay the land desolate, and to destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

Howl ye, for the day of the Lord is near: it shall come as a destruction from the Lord.

And the poor people thou wilt save: and with thy eyes thou wilt humble the haughty.

Times are not hid from the Almighty: but they that know him know not his days.

A gradual canticle. O Lord, remember David, and all his meekness.

I will lay waste the mountains and hills, and will make all their grass to wither: and I will turn rivers into islands and will dry up the standing pools.

To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord and the day of vengeance of our God: to comfort all that mourn:

Alas, for that day is great: neither is there the like to it. And it is the time of tribulation to Jacob: but he shall be saved out of it.

Therefore thus saith the Lord: Behold, I devise an evil against this family: from which you shall not withdraw your necks, and you shall not walk haughtily, for this is a very evil time.

And I will destroy the cities of thy land, and will throw down all thy strong holds, and I will take away sorceries out of thy hand, and there shall be no divinations in thee.

A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high bulwarks.

In that day thou shalt not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee thy proud boasters, and thou shalt no more be lifted up because of my holy mountain.

And they that sought my soul used violence. And they that sought evils to me spoke vain things, and studied deceits all the day long.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; and make a joyful noise to him with psalms.

And man shall be brought down, and man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be brought low.

And it shall come to pass, that when the Lord shall have performed all his works in Mount Sion and in Jerusalem, I will visit the fruit of the proud heart of the king of Assyria and the glory of the haughtiness of his eyes.

Behold, the sovereign Lord of hosts shall break the earthen vessel with terror. And the tall of stature shall be cut down: and the lofty shall be humbled.

And I will visit the evils of the world, and against the wicked for their iniquity: and I will make the pride of infidels to cease, and will bring down the arrogancy of the mighty.

But yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, into the depth of the pit.

He that bringeth the searchers of secrets to nothing, that hath made the judges of the earth as vanity.

Is my inheritance to me as a speckled bird? Is it as a bird dyed throughout? Come ye, assemble yourselves, all the beasts of the earth, make haste to devour.

Thus saith the Lord: After this manner will I make the pride of Juda and the great pride of Jerusalem to rot.

Behold, I come against thee, O proud one, saith the Lord, the God of hosts: for thy day is come, the time of thy visitation.
