Where are now thy wise men? Let them tell thee, and shew what the Lord of hosts hath purposed upon Egypt.

Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

For the scripture saith to Pharao: To this purpose have I raised thee, that I may shew my power in thee, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.

Where are the gods, whom thou hast made thee? Let them arise and deliver thee in the time of thy affliction: for according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Juda.

Who is like to me? Let him call and declare: and let him set before me the order, since I appointed the ancient people. And the things to come, and that shall be hereafter, let them shew unto them.

The Lord of hosts hath sworn, saying: Surely as I have thought, so shall it be. And as I have purposed,

Woe to you that are wise in your own eyes, and prudent in your own conceits.

And Zebul said to him: Where is now thy mouth wherewith thou saidst: Who is Abimelech that we should serve him? Is not this the people which thou didst despise? Go out, and fight against him.

Shall not I in that day, saith the Lord, destroy the wise out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?
