THE burden of Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, it is silent: because the wall of Moab is destroyed in the night, it is silent.

But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines by the sea: they together shall spoil the children of the east. Edom, and Moab shall be under the rule of their hand: and the children of Ammon shall be obedient.

A fire is gone out of Hesebon, a flame from the city of Sehon, and hath consumed Ar of the Moabites, and the inhabitants of the high places of the Arnon.

For the hand of the Lord shall rest in this mountain: and Moab shall be trodden down under him, as straw is broken in pieces with the wain.

Wherefore my bowels shall sound like a harp for Moab, and my inward parts for the brick wall.

Therefore shall Moab howl to Moab: every one shall howl. To them that rejoice upon the brick walls, tell ye their stripes.

And they destroyed the cities: and they filled every goodly field, every man casting his stone. And they stopt up all the springs of waters: and cut down all the trees that bore fruit, so that brick walls only remained. And the city was beset by the slingers, and a great part thereof destroyed.

Thou shalt pass this day the borders of Moab, the city named Ar.

And the Lord said to me: Fight not against the Moabites, neither go to battle against them. For I will not give thee any of their land, because I have given Ar to the children of Lot in possession.

And the bulwarks of thy high walls shall fall and be brought low, and shall be pulled down to the ground, even to the dust.

And when thou comest nigh the frontiers of the children of Ammon, take heed thou fight not against them, nor once move to battle. For I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon, because I have given it to the children of Lot for a possession.

We have heard of the pride of Moab: he is exceeding proud. His pride and his arrogancy and his indignation is more than his strength.
