After that Josias had repaired the temple, Nechao king of Egypt came up to fight in Charcamis by the Euphrates: and Josias went out to meet him.

And he agreed to his desire: for the king of the Assyrians went up against Damascus, and laid it waste. And he carried away the inhabitants thereof to Cyrene, but Rasin he slew.

Against Egypt, against the army of Pharao Nechao king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Charcamis, whom Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon defeated, in the fourth year of Joakim the son of Josias king of Juda.

And the beginning of his kingdom was Babylon, and Arach, and Achad, and Chalanne in the land of Sennaar.

Against Damascus. Emath is confounded and Arphad: for they have heard very bad tidings, they are troubled as in the sea: through care they could not rest.

Where is the king of Emath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Ana, and of Ava?

Where is the god of Emath and of Arphad? Where is the god of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

And aid shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus: and the remnant of Syria shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the Lord of hosts.

But the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rasin: and within threescore and five years, Ephraim shall cease to be a people:

And the king of the Assyrians brought people from Babylon, and from Cutha, and from Avah, and from Emath, and from Sepharvaim: and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel. And they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.

And Thou the king of Emath heard that David had defeated all the forces of Adarezer.

From which they shall come to Emath, as far as the borders of Sedada.

Where is the god of Emath, and of Arphad? Where is the god of Sepharvaim, of Ana, and of Ava? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

Who is there among all the gods of the nations, which my fathers have destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of this hand?

THE burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus shall cease to be a city, and shall be as a ruinous heap of stones.

Behold, thou hast heard all that the kings of the Assyrians hare done to all countries which they have destroyed: and canst thou be delivered?

Emath, Berotha, Sabarim, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Emath, the house of Tichon, which is by the border of Auran.

And their prince shall triumph over kings, and princes shall be his laughingstock: and he shall laugh at every strong hold, and shall cast up a mount, and shall take it.

The ways are made desolate, no one passeth by the road, the covenant is made void. He hath rejected the cities, he hath not regarded the men.
