There shall be an oath between them, that he did not put forth his hand to his neighbour's goods. And the owner shall accept of the oath: and he shall not be compelled to make restitution.

For God making promise to Abraham, because he had no one greater by whom he might swear, swore by himself,

The God of Abraham, and the God of Nachor, the God of their father, judge between us. And jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac.

Swear therefore by God, that thou wilt not hurt me, nor my posterity, nor my stock: but according to the kindness that I have done to thee, thou shalt do to me, and to the land wherein thou hast lived a stranger.

And Abraham said: I will swear.
