And passing on from thence to a mountain, that was on the east side of Bethel, he there pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east. He built there also an altar to the Lord, and called upon his name.

So Abram removing his tent came and dwelt by the vale of Mambre, which is in Hebron: and he built there an altar to the Lord.

Wherein God, meaning more abundantly to shew to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed an oath:

And when they had eaten, they said to him: Where is Sara thy wife? He answered: Lo, she is in the tent.

And he returned by the way that he came, from the south to Bethel, to the place where before he had pitched his tent between Bethel and Hai:

And he came to Isaac his father in Mambre, the city of Arbee, this is Hebron, wherein Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

And give the blessings of Abraham to thee, and to thy seed after thee: that thou mayst possess the land of thy sojournment, which he promised to thy grandfather.

And when they were grown up, Esau became a skillful hunter, and a husbandman: but Jacob a plain man dwelt in tents.

I am a stranger and sojourner among you: give me the right of a burying place with you, that I may bury my dead.

Abraham made haste into the tent to Sara, and said to her: Make haste, temper together three measures of flour, and make cakes upon the hearth.

And I will give to thee, and to thy seed, the land of thy sojournment, all the land of Chanaan for a perpetual possession: and I will be their God.

For they were exceeding rich, and could not dwell together: neither was the land in which they sojourned able to bear them, for the multitude of their flocks.

He answered: The days of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty years, few, and evil. And they are not come up to the days of the pilgrimage of my fathers.

And they believed his words: and they sang his praises.

Neither shall ye build houses, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyards, nor have any: but you shall dwell in tents all your days, that you may live many days upon the face of the earth, in which you are strangers.

And he was a sojourner in the land of the Palestines many days.

Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mountain: and when he with his brethren had overtaken him, he pitched his tent in the same mount of Galaad.
