And when he saw that the day of his death drew nigh, he called his son Joseph, and said to him: If I have found favour in thy sight, put thy hand under my thigh, and thou shalt shew me this kindness and truth, not to bury me in Egypt.

And the Lord said to Moses: Behold the days of thy death are nigh: call Josue, and stand ye in the tabernacle of the testimony, that I may give him a charge. So Moses and Josue went and stood in the tabernacle of the testimony:

Wherefore, if you do according to mercy and truth with my master, tell me: but if it please you otherwise, tell me that also, that I may go to the right hand, or to the left.

And he said to the elder servant of his house, who was ruler over all he had: Put thy hand under my thigh,

And the days of David drew nigh that he should die, and he charged his son Solomon, saying:

By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the going out of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this the judgment:

I will not take calves out of thy house: nor he goats out of thy flocks.

Turn to me, O Lord, and deliver my soul: O save me for thy mercy's sake.

I know that thou wilt deliver me to death, where a house is appointed for every one that liveth.

Shall man that is dead, thinkest thou, live again? All the days in which I am now in warfare, I expect until my change come.

The life of man upon earth is a warfare, and his days are like the days of a hireling.

We all die, and like waters that return no more we fall down into the earth. Neither will God have a soul to perish, but recalleth; meaning that he that is cast off should not altogether perish.

And when thy days shall be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels: and I will establish his kingdom.

He answered: The days of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty years, few, and evil. And they are not come up to the days of the pilgrimage of my fathers.

In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread till thou return to the earth, out of which thou wast taken: for dust thou art, and into dust thou shalt return.

And his father said to him: Thou seest that I am old, and know not the day of my death.

For my father made me swear to him, saying: Behold, I die: thou shalt bury me in my sepulchre which I have digged for myself in the land of Chanaan. So I will go up and bury my father, and return.

And David said: As the Lord liveth, unless the Lord shall strike him: or his day shall come to die: or he shall go down to battle and perish.

And they took Asael, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father in Bethlehem. And Joab, and the men that were with him, marched all the night, and they came to Hebron at break of day.

And he said to Joseph his son: Behold, I die, and God will be with you, and will bring you back into the land of your fathers.

So the sons of Jacob did as he had commanded them.

And the Lord said to Moses: Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, and this people rising up will go a-fornicating after strange gods in the land, to which it goeth in to dwell. There will they forsake me, and will make void the covenant, which I have made with them,

They answered her: Be our lives for you unto death, only if thou betray us not. And when the Lord shall have delivered us the land, we will shew thee mercy and truth.

Behold this day I am going into the way of all the earth: and you shall know with all your mind that of all the words which the Lord promised to perform for you, not one hath failed.
