And when morning was come, being struck with fear, he sent to all the interpreters of Egypt, and to all the wise men. And they being called for, he told them his dream; and there was not any one that could interpret it.

And the magicians of the Egyptians with their enchantments did in like manner. And Pharao's heart was hardened: neither did he hear them, as the Lord had commanded.

WHEN Jesus therefore was born in Bethlehem of Juda, in the days of king Herod, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem.

Therefore, behold, I will proceed to cause an admiration in this people, by a great and wonderful miracle: for wisdom shall perish from their wise men, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

And Pharao called the wise men and the magicians: and they also by Egyptian enchantments and certain secrets did in like manner.

And when they shall say to you: Seek of pythons, and of diviners, who mutter in their enchantments: should not the people seek of their God, for the living of the dead?

Go not aside after wizards: neither ask any thing of soothsayers, to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.

And the magicians also by their enchantments did in like manner: and the brought forth frogs upon all the land of Egypt

They answered: We have dreamed a dream, and there is nobody to interpret it to us. And Joseph said to them: Doth not interpretation belong to God? Tell me what you have dreamed.

And when Joseph was come in to them in the morning, and saw them sad,

For it is written: I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the prudence of the prudent I will reject.

And certain philosophers of the Epicureans and of the Stoics disputed with him; and some said: What is it, that this word sower would say? But others: He seemeth to be a setter forth of new gods; because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection.

And Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians; and he was mighty in his words and in his deeds.

I have heard and my bowels were troubled: my lips trembled at the voice. Let rottenness enter into my bones, and swarm under me. That I may rest in the day of tribulation: that I may go up to our people that are girded.

And the spirit of Egypt shall be broken in the bowels thereof, and I will cast down their counsel: and they shall consult their idols, and their diviners, and their wizards and soothsayers.

The soul that shall go aside after magicians, and soothsayers, and shall commit fornication with them: I will set my face against that soul, and destroy it out of the midst of its people.

Neither could the magicians stand before Moses, for the boils that were upon them, and in all the land of Egypt.

And devoured all the beauty of the former. Pharao awaked after his rest.

And he said to him: I have dreamed dreams, and there is no one that can expound them. Now I have heard that thou art very wise at interpreting them.

And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners, saying: What shall we do with the ark of the Lord? Tell us how we are to send it back to its place? And they said:

And they devoured the beauty of the former. I told this dream to the conjecturers, and there is no man that can expound it.
