And others fell among thorns: and the thorns grew up and choked them.

And it shall come to pass in that day that every place where there were a thousand vines, at a thousand pieces of silver shall become thorns and briers.

His harvest the hungry shall eat, and the armed man shall take him by violence; and the thirsty shall drink up his riches.

But that which bringeth forth thorns and briers, is reprobate, and very near unto a curse, whose end is to be burnt.

For thus saith the Lord to the men of Juda and Jerusalem: Break up anew your fallow ground, and sow not upon thorns.

Upon the land of my people shall thorns and briers come up. How much more upon all the houses of joy, of the city that rejoiced!

And I will make it desolate. It shall not be pruned and it shall not be digged: but briers and thorns shall come up. And I will command the clouds to rain no rain upon it.

Arms and swords are in the way of the perverse: but he that keepeth his own soul departeth far from them.

Let thistles grow up to me instead of wheat, and thorns instead of barley.

Know ye for a certainty that the Lord your God will not destroy them before your face: but they shall be a pit and a snare in your way, and a stumbling-block at your side, and stakes in your eyes, till he take you away and destroy you from off this excellent land, which he hath given you.

They have sown wheat and reaped thorns: they have received an inheritance, and it shall not profit them: you shall be ashamed of your fruits, because of the fierce wrath of the Lord.

And behold it was all filled with nettles, and thorns had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall was broken down.

Sing to him, yea sing praises to him: relate all his wondrous works.

For he hath delivered me from the snare of the hunters: and from the sharp word.

And said: Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither. The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away. As it hath pleased the Lord so is it done. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

For one believeth that he may eat all things: but he that is weak, let him eat herbs.

And to Adam he said: Because thou hast hearkened to the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldst not eat, cursed is the earth in thy work; with labour and toil shalt thou eat thereof all the days of thy life.

In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread till thou return to the earth, out of which thou wast taken: for dust thou art, and into dust thou shalt return.

With arrows and with bows they shall go in thither: for briars and thorns shall be in all the land.
