And Solomon had under him all the kingdoms from the river to the land of the Philistines, even to the border of Egypt: and they brought him presents, and served him, all the days of his life.

That day God made a covenant with Abram, saying: To thy seed will I give this land, from the river of Egypt even to the great river Euphrates.

They have thought and spoken wickedness: they have spoken iniquity on high.

At that time David defeated also Adarezer king of Soba of the land of Hemath, when he went to extend his dominions as far as the river Euphrates.

We give you also to understand concerning all the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nathinites, and ministers of the house of this God, that you have no authority to impose toll or tribute, or custom upon them.

We certify the king, that if this city be built, and the walls thereof repaired, thou shalt have no possession on this side of the river.

And now be it known to the king, that if this city be built up, and the walls thereof repaired, they will not pay tribute nor toll, nor yearly revenues; and this loss will fail upon the kings.

The Philistines also brought presents to Josaphat, and tribute in silver. And the Arabians brought him cattle, seven thousand seven hundred rams, and as many he-goats.

Beside the sum which the deputies of divers nations, and the merchants, were accustomed to bring, and all the kings of Arabia, and the lords of the lands, who brought gold and silver to Solomon.

And when the servants of Adarezer saw themselves overcome by Israel, they went over to David, and served him: and Syria would not help the children of Ammon any more.

And he put a garrison in Edom, that Edom should serve David. And the Lord preserved David in all things to which he went.

And he put a garrison in Damascus, that Syria also should serve him, and bring gifts. And the Lord assisted him in all things to which he went.

For he had all the country which was beyond the river, from Thaphsa to Gazan, and all the kings of those countries. And he had peace on every side round about.

And when Jesus passed on from hence, he saw a man sitting in the custom house, named Matthew; and he saith to him: Follow me. And he rose up and followed him.

And I commanded; and search hath been made. And it is found, that this city of old time hath rebelled against kings, and seditions and wars have been raised therein.

Now therefore hear the sentence: Hinder those men, that this city be not built, till further orders be given by me.

And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon: for he heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father. For Hiram had always been David's friend.

But now the Lord my God hath given me rest round about: and there is no adversary nor evil occurrence.

And she hath strong rods to make sceptres for them that bear rule: and her stature was exalted among the branches: and she saw her height in the multitude of her branches.
