And after this he said: Hew thee two tables of stone like unto the former: and I will write upon them the words which were in the tables, which thou brokest.

And he shewed you his covenant, which he commanded you to do, and the ten words that he wrote in two tables of stone.

And Moses, entering into the midst of the cloud, went up into the mountain: and he was there forty days, and forty nights.

And I lay prostrate before the Lord forty days and nights, in which I humbly besought him, that he would not destroy you as he had threatened.

And I fell down before the Lord as before, forty days and nights neither eating bread, nor drinking water, for all your sins, which you had committed against the Lord, and had provoked him to wrath.

And made by the work of God. The writing also of God was graven in the tables.

And the Lord, when he had ended these words in mount Sinai, gave to Moses two stone tables of testimony, written with the finger of God.

Now if the ministration of death, engraven with letters upon stones, was glorious; so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses, for the glory of his countenance, which is made void:

When I went up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, the tables of the covenant which the Lord made with you. And I continued in the mount forty days and nights, neither eating bread, nor drinking water.

And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he was hungry.

For the space of forty days; and was tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing in those days; and when they were ended, he was hungry.

The Lord answered: I will make a covenant in the sight of all. I will do signs such as were never seen upon the earth, nor in any nations: that this people, in the midst of whom thou art, may see the terrible work of the Lord which I will do.

And I stood in the mount, as before, forty days and nights: and the Lord heard me this time also, and would not destroy thee.

And he arose, and ate, and drank, and walked in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights, unto the mount of God, Horeb.

And returning from the mount, I came down, and put the tables into the ark, that I had made: and they are there till this present, as the Lord commanded me.
