And the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man is wont to speak to his friend. And when he returned into the camp, his servant Josue the son of Nun, a young man, departed not from the tabernacle.

For I speak to him mouth to mouth, and plainly: and not by riddles and figures doth he see the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak ill of my servant Moses?

And there arose no more a prophet in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face:

And when he was gone into the tabernacle of the covenant, the pillar of the cloud came down, and stood at the door: and he spoke with Moses.

Moses rose up, and his minister Josue: and Moses going up into the mount of God,

He spoke to us face to face in the mount out of the midst of fire.

And Jacob called the name of the place Phanuel, saying: I have seen God face to face, and my soul has been saved.

And the scripture was fulfilled, saying: Abraham believed God, and it was reputed to him to justice, and he was called the friend of God.

These things he said; and after that he said to them: Lazarus our friend sleepeth; but I go that I may awake him out of sleep.

He that hath the bride, is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth with joy because of the bridegroom's voice. This my joy therefore is fulfilled.

I, the Lord, this is my name: I will not give my glory to another, nor my praise to graven things.

My friends are full of words: my eye poureth out tears to God.

Didst not thou our God kill all the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?

And Josue hearing the noise of the people shouting said to Moses: The noise of battle is heard in the camp.

And Moses said to Josue: Choose out men: and go out and fight against Amalec. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill having the rod of God in my hand.

And all saw that the pillar of the cloud stood at the door of the tabernacle. And they stood, and worshipped at the doors of their tents.

Forthwith Josue the son of Nun, the minister of Moses, and chosen out of many, said: My lord Moses, forbid them.

But it is not so with my servant Moses who is most faithful in all my house.

And the Lord said to Moses: Behold the days of thy death are nigh: call Josue, and stand ye in the tabernacle of the testimony, that I may give him a charge. So Moses and Josue went and stood in the tabernacle of the testimony:
