And the Lord said to him: I have seen the affliction of my people in Egypt, and I have heard their cry; because of the rigour of them that are over the works.

And thou sawest the affliction of our fathers in Egypt: and thou didst hear their cry by the Red Sea.

If you hurt them they will cry out to me, and I will hear their cry:

In all their affliction he was not troubled: and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love, and in his mercy he redeemed them: and he carried them and lifted them up all the days of old.

Let them be confounded and ashamed that seek after my soul. Let them be turned back and be confounded that devise against me.

Therefore he set over them masters of the works, to afflict them with burdens. And they built for Pharao cities of tabernacles, Phithom and Ramesses.

Seeing I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, and I will send thee into Egypt.

And again: Behold, said he, thou art with child, and thou shalt bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Ismael: because the Lord hath heard thy affliction.

And God heard the voice of the boy. And an angel of God called to Agar from heaven, saying: What art thou doing, Agar? Fear not: for God hath heard the voice of the boy, from the place wherein he is.

And he said: Lift up thy eyes, and see that all the males leaping upon the females, are of divers colours, spotted, and speckled. For I have seen all that Laban hath done to thee.

Unless the God of my father Abraham, and the fear of Isaac had stood by me, peradventure now thou hadst sent me away naked: God beheld my affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yesterday.

Therefore he commanded the same day the overseers of the works, and the taskmasters of the people, saying:

And the overseers of the works and the taskmasters went out and said to the people: Thus saith Pharao, I allow you no straw.

If therefore I have found favour in thy sight, shew me thy face, that I may know thee, and may find grace before thy eyes. Look upon thy people this nation.

And how we cried to the Lord, and he heard us, and sent an angel, who hath brought us out of Egypt. Lo, we are now in the city of Cades, which is in the uttermost of thy borders:

And the poor people thou wilt save: and with thy eyes thou wilt humble the haughty.

But Joachaz besought the face of the Lord; and the Lord heard him, for he saw the distress of Israel, because the king of Syria had oppressed them.

In the mean time there arose a new king over Egypt, that knew not Joseph.

Go back, and tell Ezechias the captain of my people: Thus saith the Lord the God of David thy father: I have heard thy prayer, and I have seen thy tears: and, behold, I have healed thee. On the third day thou shalt go up to the temple of the Lord.

Have mercy on me, O Lord: see my humiliation which I suffer from my enemies.

but I have trusted in thy mercy. My heart shall rejoice in thy salvation: I will sing to the Lord, who giveth me good things, yea I will sing to the name of the Lord the most high.
