But the seventh year thou shalt let it alone, and suffer it to rest, that the poor of thy people may eat: and whatsoever shall be left, let the beasts of the field eat it. So shalt thou do with thy vineyard and thy oliveyard.

And the eighth year you shall sow, and shall eat of the old fruits, until the ninth year: till new grow up, you shall eat the old store.

But if you say: What shall we eat the seventh year, if we sow not, nor gather our fruits?

Six years thou shalt sow thy ground, and shalt gather the corn thereof.

Six days thou shalt work: the seventh day thou shalt cease; that thy ox and thy ass may rest, and the son of thy handmaid and the stranger may be refreshed.

Thou hast brought us indeed into a land that floweth with rivers of milk and honey, and hast given us possessions of fields and vineyards. Wilt thou also pull out our eyes? We will not come.

And if the people of the land bring in things to sell, or any things for use, to sell them on the sabbath day, that we would not buy them of them on the sabbath, or on the holy day. And that we would leave the seventh year, and the exaction of every hand.

There will not be wanting poor in the land of thy habitation: therefore I command thee to open thy hand to thy needy and poor brother, that liveth in the land.

And we made ordinances for ourselves, to give the third part of a side every year for the work of the house of our God:
