Now after a long time the king of Egypt died. And the children of Israel groaning cried out because of the works: and their cry went up unto God from the works.

Behold the hire of the labourers, who have reaped down your fields, which by fraud has been kept back by you, crieth: and the cry of them hath entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

And the Lord said to Moses, in Madian: Go, and return into Egypt; for they are all dead that sought thy life.

And he said to him: What hast thou done? The voice of thy brother's blood crieth to me from the earth.

And how we cried to the Lord, and he heard us, and sent an angel, who hath brought us out of Egypt. Lo, we are now in the city of Cades, which is in the uttermost of thy borders:

And Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three, when they spoke to Pharao.

For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel: and the man of Juda, his pleasant plant. And I looked that he should do judgment, and, behold, iniquity: and do justice, and behold a cry.

And they made their life bitter with hard works in clay, and brick, and with all manner of service, wherewith they were overcharged in the works of the earth.

I have heard the groaning of the children of Israel, wherewith the Egyptians have oppressed them: and I have remembered my covenant.

And Moses told all this to the children of Israel: but they did not hearken to him, for anguish of spirit, and most painful work.

How Jacob went into Egypt, and your fathers cried to the Lord: and the Lord sent Moses and Aaron, and brought your fathers out of Egypt: and made them dwell in this place.

By reason of the multitude of oppressors they shall cry out: and shall wail for the violence of the arm of tyrants.

For David himself. Bless the Lord, O my soul: and let all that is within me bless his holy name.

And the children of Israel cried to the Lord: for he had nine hundred chariots set with scythes, and for twenty years had grievously oppressed them.

To-morrow about this same hour I will send thee a man of the land of Benjamin. And thou shalt anoint him to be ruler over my people Israel; and he shall save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked down upon my people, because their cry is come to me.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and never forget all he hath done for thee.
