What needeth a man to seek things that are above him, whereas he knoweth not what is profitable for him in his life, in all the days of his pilgrimage, and the time that passeth like a shadow? Or who can tell him what shall be after him under the sun?

And I heard a voice from heaven, saying to me: Write: Blessed are the dead, who die in the Lord. From henceforth now, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; for their works follow them.

A good name is better than great riches: and good favour is above silver and gold.

And I praised the dead rather than the living:

But we are confident, and have a good will to be absent rather from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

For we know, if our earthly house of this habitation be dissolved, that we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in heaven.

Draw me: we will run after thee to the odour of thy ointments. The king hath brought me into his storerooms: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, remembering thy breasts more than wine: the righteous love thee.

Dying flies spoil the sweetness of the ointment. Wisdom and glory is more precious than a small and shortlived folly.

Ointment and perfumes rejoice the heart: and the good counsels of a friend are sweet to the soul.

I will give to them, in my house and within my walls, a place and a name better than sons and daughters. I will give them an everlasting name which shall never perish.

The light of the eyes rejoiceth the soul: a good name maketh the bones fat.

There the wicked cease from tumult, and there the wearied in strength are at rest.

And when supper was done, (the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray him,)

In the nights lift up your hands to the holy places, and bless ye the Lord.

And all these being approved by the testimony of faith, received not the promise;

For by this the ancients obtained a testimony.

But yet rejoice not in this, that spirits are subject unto you; but rejoice in this, that your names are written in heaven.

How beautiful are thy breasts, my sister, my spouse! thy breasts are more beautiful than wine, and the sweet smell of thy ointments above all aromatical spices.

Oppression troubleth the wise, and shall destroy the strength of his heart.

And now, O Lord, I beseech thee take my life from me: for it is better for me to die than to live.

So she slept at his feet till the night was going off. And she arose before men could know one another, and Booz said: Beware lest any man know that thou camest hither.

Lest he insult over thee, when he hath heard it, and cease not to upbraid thee. Grace and friendship deliver a man: keep these for thyself, lest thou fall under reproach.
