But the children of Israel, adding new sins to their old ones, did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served idols, Baalim and Astaroth, and the gods of Syria and of Sidon and of Moab and of the children of Ammon and of the Philistines. And they left the Lord, and did not serve him.

And yet you have forsaken me, and have worshipped strange gods: therefore I will deliver you no more.

And they left the Lord the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt: and they followed strange gods, and the gods of the people that dwelt round about them, and they adored them. And they provoked the Lord to anger:

Make no covenant with the men of those countries: lest, when they have committed fornication with their gods, and have adored their idols, some one call thee to eat of the things sacrificed.

For true and just are his judgments, who hath judged the great harlot which corrupted the earth with her fornication, and hath revenged the blood of his servants, at her hands.

But trusting in thy beauty, thou playedst the harlot because of thy renown and thou hast prostituted thyself to every passenger, to be his.

The beloved grew fat, and kicked: he grew fat, and thick and gross. He forsook God who made him: and departed from God his saviour.

For David, when he had served in his generation, according to the will of God, slept: and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption.

And when thy days shall be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels: and I will establish his kingdom.

And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they served Baalim.

And he said: I have not troubled Israel, but thou and thy father's house, who have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and have followed Baalim.

And he answered: With zeal have I been zealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant. They have thrown down thy altars, they have slain thy prophets with the sword, and I alone am left: and they seek my life to take it away.

If so be they may present their supplication before the Lord, and may return every one from his wicked way: for great is the wrath and indignation which the Lord hath pronounced against this people.

The beginning of the Lord's speaking by Osse: and the Lord said to Osee: Go, take thee a wife of fornications, and have of her children of fornications: for the land by fornication shall depart from the Lord.

You speak words of an unprofitable vision, and you shall make a covenant: and judgment shall spring up as bitterness in the furrows of the field.

Because they hearkened not to the voice of the Lord their God, but transgressed his covenant. All that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded, they would not hear nor do.

In those days Ezechias was sick unto death. And Isaias the son of Amos the prophet came and said to him: Thus saith the Lord God: Give charge concerning thy house, for thou shalt die, and not live.

Moreover he built also high places in the cities of Juda: and he made the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and Juda to transgress.

Thou hast neither heard nor known: neither was thy ear opened of old. For I know that transgressing thou wilt transgress: and I have called thee a transgressor from the womb.
