Thou shalt serve thy enemy, whom the Lord will send upon thee, in hunger, and thirst, and nakedness, and in want of all things. And he shall put an iron yoke upon thy neck, till he consume thee.

Say to the provoking house: Know you not what these things mean? Tell them: Behold, the king of Babylon cometh to Jerusalem: and he shall take away the king and the princes thereof and carry them with him to Babylon.

Behold, I will watch over them for evil and not for good: and all the men of Juda that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by famine till there be an end of them.

So that the Lord could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings and because of the abominations which you have committed. Therefore your land is become a desolation and an astonishment and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.

Take up my yoke upon you, and learn of me, because I am meek, and humble of heart: and you shall find rest to your souls.

And there was another large eagle, with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine, bending as it were her roots towards him, stretched forth her branches to him, that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation.

And say: Thus saith the Lord God: A large eagle with great wings, long-limbed, full of feathers and of variety, came to Libanus and took away the marrow of the cedar.

And thou shalt be left stripped of thy inheritance which I gave thee: and I will make thee serve thy enemies in a land which thou knowest not. Because thou hast kindled a fire in my wrath, it shall burn for ever.

And if you shall say: Why hath the Lord our God done all these things to us? Thou shalt say to them: As you have forsaken me and served a strange god in your own land, so shall you serve strangers in a land that is not your own.

I was angry with my people, I have polluted my inheritance and have given them into thy hand. Thou hast shewn no mercy to them: upon the ancient thou hast laid thy yoke exceeding heavy.

But yet they shall serve him, that they may know the difference between my service, and the service of a kingdom of the earth.

They shall be consumed with famine, and birds shall devour them with a most bitter bite. I will send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the fury of creatures that trail upon the ground, and of serpents.

If thy people Israel shall fly before their enemies, (because they will sin against thee,) and doing penance, and confessing to thy name, shall come, and pray, and make supplications to thee in this house:

Daleth. The tongue of the sucking child hath stuck to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the little ones have asked for bread, and there was none to break it unto them.

And they shall deal with thee in hatred, and they shall take away all thy labours and shall let thee go naked and full of disgrace; and the disgrace of thy fornication shall be discovered, thy wickedness and thy fornications.

Therefore thus saith the Lord: Behold, I devise an evil against this family: from which you shall not withdraw your necks, and you shall not walk haughtily, for this is a very evil time.

Ghimel. Juda hath removed her dwelling-place because of her affliction and the greatness of her bondage: she hath dwelt among the nations and she hath found no rest: all her persecutors have taken her in the midst of straits.

Nun. The yoke of my iniquities hath watched: they are folded together in his hand and put upon my neck. My strength is weakened: the Lord hath delivered me into a hand out of which I am not able to rise.
