When thou hast made an end of tithing all thy fruits, in the third year of tithes thou shalt give it to the Levite, and to the stranger, and to the fatherless, and to the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled.

But be content with the oblation or tithes, which I have separated for their uses and necessities.

All tithes of the land, whether of corn, or of the fruits of trees, are the Lord's, and are sanctified to him.

He that despiseth his neighbour, sinneth: but he that sheweth mercy to the poor, shall be blessed. He that believeth in the Lord, loveth mercy.

And indeed they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is to say, of their brethren: though they themselves also came out of the loins of Abraham.

And thou shalt make merry in thy festival time, thou, thy son, and thy daughter, thy man-servant, and thy maid-servant: the Levite also and the stranger, and the fatherless and the widow that are within thy gates.

And (as it may be said) even Levi who received tithes, paid tithes in Abraham:

That you may have corn. The fifth part you shall give to the king: the other four you shall have for seed, and for food for your families and children.

From that time unto this day, in the whole land of Egypt, the fifth part is paid to the king: and it is become as a law, except the land of the priests, which was free from this covenant.
