Because David had done that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, and had not turned aside from any thing that he commanded him, all the days of his life, except the matter of Urias the Hethite.

Thou hast said: I have overthrown Edom, and therefore thy heart is lifted up with pride. Stay at home: Why dost thou provoke evil against thee, that both thou shouldst fall and Juda with thee?

Thou hast beaten and prevailed over Edom, and thy heart hath lifted thee up: be content with the glory, and sit at home. Why provokest thou evil, that thou shouldst fall, and Juda with thee?

And the Lord said to Jehu: Because thou hast diligently executed that which was right and pleasing in my eyes, and hast done to the house of Achab according to all that was in my heart, thy children shall sit upon the throne of Israel to the fourth Generation.

And to his son I will give one tribe: that there may remain a lamp for my servant David before me always in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen, that my name might be there.

Yet I will not take away all the kingdom out of his hand: but I will make him prince all the days of his life, for David my servant's sake, whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my precepts.

Because it is like the sin of witchcraft, to rebel: and like the crime of idolatry, to refuse to obey. Forasmuch therefore as thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, the Lord hath also rejected thee from being king.

According to his law. And thou shalt follow their sentence: neither shalt thou decline to the right hand nor to the left hand.

What I command thee, that only do thou to the Lord: neither add any thing, nor diminish.

Observe and hear all the things that I command thee, that it may be well with thee and thy children after thee for ever, when thou shalt do what is good and pleasing in the sight of the Lord thy God.

That it may be well with thee and thy children after thee, when thou shalt do that which is pleasing in the sight of the Lord.

And thou shalt remember all the way through which the Lord thy God hath brought thee for forty years through the desert, to afflict thee and to prove thee: and that the things that were in thy heart might be made known, whether thou wouldst keep his commandments or no.

In like manner, ye young men, be subject to the ancients. And do you all insinuate humility one to another, for God resisteth the proud, but to the humble he giveth grace.

And Samuel told the people the law of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the Lord: and Samuel sent away all the people, every one to his own house.

For all his judgments are in my sight: and his precepts I have not removed from me.

And keep the charge of the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and observe his ceremonies, and his precepts, and judgments, and testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses: that thou mayest understand all thou dost, and whithersoever thou shalt turn thyself.

And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him: end his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.
