In the days of one of the judges, when the judges ruled, there came a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehem Juda went to sojourn in the land of Moab with his wife and his two sons.

The Syrians from the east, and the Philistines from the west: and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his indignation is not turned away: but his hand is stretched out still.

He shall not return into the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be his king: because they would not be converted.
