Then went the officer with the ministers, and brought them without violence; for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned.

And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put Jesus to death: but they feared the people.

But if we say, Of men, the whole people will stone us: for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.

And calling in the apostles, after they had scourged them, they charged them that they should not speak at all in the name of Jesus; and they dismissed them.

But that it may be no farther spread among the people, let us threaten them that they speak no more in this name to any man.

And when he said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the things that were gloriously done by him.

And all were astonished; and they glorified God. And they were filled with fear, saying: We have seen wonderful things to day.

But they said: Not on the festival day, lest perhaps there should be a tumult among the people.

So that the multitudes marvelled seeing the dumb speak, the lame walk, and the blind see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

And after the devil was cast out, the dumb man spoke, and the multitudes wondered, saying, Never was the like seen in Israel.

For the man was above forty years old, in whom that miraculous cure had been wrought.

But of the rest no man durst join himself unto them; but the people magnified them.
