As the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the ancients: from whom also receiving letters to the brethren, I went to Damascus, that I might bring them bound from thence to Jerusalem to be punished.

And as soon as it was day, the ancients of the people, and the chief priests and scribes, cane together; and they brought him into their council, saying: If thou be the Christ, tell us.

Who having heard this, early in the morning, entered into the temple, and taught. And the high priest coming, and they that were with him, called together the council, and all the ancients of the children of Israel; and they sent to the prison to have them brought.

Neglect not the grace that is in thee, which was given thee by prophesy, with imposition of the hands of the priesthood.

But they said to him: We neither received letters concerning thee from Judea, neither did any of the brethren that came hither, relate or speak any evil of thee.

Whereupon when I was going to Damascus with authority and permission of the chief priest,

Which also I did at Jerusalem, and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority of the chief priests: and when they were put to death, I brought the sentence.

MEN, brethren, and fathers, hear ye the account which I now give unto you.

Men, brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you fear God, to you the word of this salvation is sent.

And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that invoke thy name.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that their princes, and ancients, and scribes, were gathered together in Jerusalem;

In those days Peter rising up in the midst of the brethren, said: (now the number of persons together was about an hundred and twenty:)

Ye men, brethren, let me freely speak to you of the patriarch David; that he died, and was buried; and his sepulchre is with us to this present day.

And now, brethren, I know that you did it through ignorance, as did also your rulers.

AND Paul looking upon the council, said: Men, brethren, I have conversed with all good conscience before God until this present day.

And Paul knowing that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, cried out in the council: Men, brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of Pharisees: concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

And oftentimes punishing them, in every synagogue, I compelled them to blaspheme: and being yet more mad against them, I persecuted them even unto foreign cities.

And after the third day, he called together the chief of the Jews. And when they were assembled, he said to them: Men, brethren, I, having done nothing against the people, or the custom of our fathers, was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans;

For you have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion: how that, beyond measure, I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it.

According to zeal, persecuting the church of God; according to the justice that is in the law, conversing without blame.
