And the king said to Sadoc the priest: O seer, return into the city in peace: and let Achimaas thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar, your two sons, be with you.
And Jonathan and Achimaas stayed by the fountain Rogel: and there went a maid and told them. And they went forward, to carry the message to king David, for they might not be seen, nor enter into the city.
Now in time past, in Israel when a man went to consult God he spoke thus: Come, let us go to the seer. For he that is now called a prophet, in time past was called a seer.
All these were the sons of Heman the seer of the king, in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
And there are with them their two sons Achimaas the son of Sadoc, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar: and you shall send by them to me every thing that you shall hear.
But if thou return into the city, and wilt say to Absalom: I am thy servant, O king. As I have been thy father's servant, so I will be thy servant: thou shalt defeat the counsel of Achitophel.
And he said to him: Behold, there is a man of God in this city, a famous man; all that he saith cometh certainly to pass. Now therefore let us go thither; perhaps he may tell us of our way, for which we are come.
While he yet spoke, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came. And Adonias said to him: Come in, because thou art a valiant man, and bringest good news.
