And the king appointed that lord on whose hand he leaned, to stand at the gate. And the people trod upon him in the entrance of the gate; and he died, as the man of God had said, when the king came down to him.

Then one of the lords, upon whose hand the king leaned, answering the man of God, said: If the Lord should make flood-gates in heaven, can that possibly be which thou sayest? And he said: Thou shalt see it with thy eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

But Eliseus sat in his house, and the ancients sat with him. So he sent a man before. And before that messenger came, he said to the ancients: Do you know that this son of a murderer hath sent to cut off my head? Look then, when the messenger shall come, shut the door, and suffer him not to come in: for, behold, the sound of his master's feet is behind him.

How much more, do you think he deserveth worse punishments, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath esteemed the blood of the testament unclean, by which he was sanctified, and hath offered an affront to the Spirit of grace?

And my enemy shall behold, and she shall be covered with shame, who saith to me: Where is the Lord thy God? My eyes shall look down upon her: now shall she be trodden under foot as the mire of the streets.

For the hand of the Lord shall rest in this mountain: and Moab shall be trodden down under him, as straw is broken in pieces with the wain.

And he said to them: Throw her down headlong. And they threw her down. And the wall was sprinkled with her blood: and the hoofs of the horses trod upon her.

And so it was, that they were slain on both sides by the enemies, and there was no rest of their men dying. They fell and were beaten down on the east side of the city Gabaa.

But there is only this, for which thou shalt entreat the Lord for thy servant: when my master goeth into the temple of Remmon, to worship, and he leaneth upon my hand: if I bow down in the temple of Remmon, when he boweth down in the same place, that the Lord pardon me thy servant for this thing.
