And there was a great famine in Samaria: and so long did the siege continue, till the head of an ass was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cabe of pigeon's dung, for five pieces of silver.

And in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, a famine overpowered the city: and there was no food for the people of the land.

If I go forth into the fields behold the slain with the sword: and if I enter into the city, behold them that are consumed with famine. The prophet also and the priest are gone into a land which they knew not.

Behold, works are built up against the city to take it: and the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans, who fight against it, by the sword, and the famine, and the pestilence. And what thou hast spoken is all come to pass, as thou thyself seest.

The ninth day of the month. And a famine prevailed in the city; and there was no bread for the people of the land.

If we will enter into the city, we shall die with the famine: and if we will remain here, we must also die. Come, therefore, and let us run over to the camp of the Syrians. If they spare us, we shall live: but if they kill us, we shall but die.

And Elias went to shew himself to Achab: and there was a grievous famine in Samaria.

After I shall have broken the staff of your bread: so that ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and give it out by weight: and you shall eat, and shall not be filled.

And as the king of Israel was passing by the wall, a certain woman cried out to him, saying: Save me, my lord O king.

And he arose in the night and said to his servants: I tell you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we suffer great famine, and therefore they are gone out of the camp, and lie hid in the fields, saying: When they come out of the city we shall take them alive, and then we may get into the city.

And when there also they began to be famished, the people cried to Pharao for food. And he said to them: Go to Joseph; and do all that he shall say to you.

So that when bread and water fail, every man may fall against his brother, and they may pine away in their iniquities.
