And all the people of the land went into the temple of Baal, and broke down his altars: and his images they broke in pieces thoroughly. They slew also Mathan the priest of Baal before the altar. And the priest set guards in the house of the Lord.

He destroyed the high places, and broke the statues in pieces, and cut down the groves, and broke the brazen serpent, which Moses had made. For till that time the children of Israel burnt incense to it: and he called its name Nohestan.

And brought the statue out of Baal's temple, and burnt it,

And Elias said to them: Take the prophets of Baal, and let not one of them escape. And when they had taken them, Elias brought them down to the torrent Cison, and killed them there.

And they broke down before him the altars of Baalim, and demolished the idols that had been set upon them. And he cut down the groves and the graven things, and broke them in pieces: and strewed the fragments upon the graves of them that had sacrificed to them.

And they came up into the land of Juda, and wasted it. And they carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house: his sons also, and his wives; so that there was no son left him but Joachaz, who was the youngest.

And he broke in pieces the statues, and cut down the groves: and he filled their places with the bones of dead men.

And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Ennom: that no man should consecrate there his son or his daughter through fire to Moloch.

But thou shalt presently put him to death. Let thy hand be first upon him: and afterwards the hands of all the people.

And laying hold of the calf which they had made, he burnt it, and beat it to powder, which he strowed into water, and gave thereof to the children of Israel to drink.

Destroy all the places in which the nations, that you shall possess, worshipped their gods upon high mountains, and hills, and under every shady tree.

And he sent into all the borders of Israel: and all the servants of Baal came. There was not one left that did not come. And they went into the temple of Baal: and the house of Baal was filled, from one end to the other.

And broke it in pieces. They destroyed also the temple of Baal, and made a jakes in its place unto this day.

And he slew all the priests of the high places, that were there, upon the altars: and he burnt men's bones upon them: and returned to Jerusalem.

If thy brother the son of thy mother, or thy son, or daughter, or thy wife that is in thy bosom, or thy friend, whom thou lovest as thy own soul, would persuade thee secretly, saying: Let us go, and serve strange gods, which thou knowest not, nor thy fathers,

With stones shall he be stoned to death. Because he would have withdrawn thee from the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage:

And it came to pass, when the burnt-offering was ended, that Jehu commanded his soldiers and captains, saying: Go in, and kill them. Let none escape. And the soldiers and captains slew them with the edge of the sword, and cast them out. And they went into the city of the temple of Baal,
