He set also a graven and a molten statue in the house of God, of which God had said to David, and to Solomon his son: In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever.

He built also altars in the house of the Lord, whereof the Lord had said: In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.

For I have chosen, and have sanctified this place, that my name may be there for ever: and my eyes and my heart may remain there perpetually.

And he took away the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of the Lord: the altars also which he had made in the mount of the house of the Lord, and in Jerusalem. And he cast them all out of the city.

But I chose Jerusalem, that my name might be there: and I chose David to set him over my people Israel.

And he caused the grove to be carried out from the house of the Lord without Jerusalem to the valley of Cedron. And he burnt it there, and reduced it to dust, and cast the dust upon the graves of the common people.

But one tribe shall remain to him for the sake of my servant David, and Jerusalem the city; which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel:

Neither will I take away the whole kingdom, but I will give one tribe to thy son for the sake of David my servant, and Jerusalem which I have chosen.

And return to thee with all their heart, and all their soul, in the land of their enemies, to which they had been led captives: and pray to thee towards the way of their land, which thou gavest to their fathers, and of the city which thou hast chosen, and of the temple which I have built to thy name:

If thy people go out to war against their enemies, by what way soever thou shalt send them, they shall pray to thee towards the way of the city, which thou hast chosen, and towards the house, which I have built to thy name.

That thy eyes may be open upon this house night and day; upon the house of which thou hast said: My name shall be there. That thou mayest hearken to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth in this place to thee.

And the Lord said to him: I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, which thou hast made before me. I have sanctified this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever: and my eyes and my heart shall be there always.

Because the children of Juda have done evil in my eyes, saith the Lord. They have set their abominations in the house in which my name is called upon, to pollute it.

Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth.

So he restored them to his mother, who said to him: I have consecrated and vowed this silver to the Lord, that my son may receive it at my hand, and make a graven and a molten god. So now I deliver it to thee.

And finding out a device he made two golden calves, and said to them: Go ye up no more to Jerusalem: Behold thy gods, O Israel, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt.

From the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel, for a house to be built in it to my name. Neither chose I any other man, to be the ruler of my people Israel.
