Our fathers have sinned and done evil in the sight of the Lord God, forsaking him: they have turned away their faces from the tabernacle of the Lord, and turned their backs.

And he brought me into the inner court of the house of the Lord: and, behold, at the door of the temple of the Lord between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men having their backs towards the temple of the Lord and their faces to the east: and they adored towards the rising of the sun.

Saying to a stock: Thou art my father. And to a stone: Thou hast begotten me. They have turned their back to me, and not their face: and in the time of their affliction they will say: Arise, and deliver us.

He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me.

Our fathers have sinned and are not: and we have borne their iniquities.

Was it not the sacrifice that you offered in the cities of Juda and in the streets of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and your princes, and the people of the land, which the Lord hath remembered: and hath it not entered into his heart?

Now therefore our God, great, strong and terrible, who keepest covenant and mercy, turn not away from thy face all the labour which hath come upon us: upon our kings, and our princes, and our priests, and our prophets, and our fathers, and all the people from the days of the king of Assur, until this day.

But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their necks, and hearkened not to thy commandments.

From the days of our fathers. And we ourselves also have sinned grievously unto this day: and for our iniquities we, and our kings, and our priests have been delivered into the hands of the kings of the lands, and to the sword, and to captivity, and to spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is at this day.

But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven to wrath, he delivered them into the hands of Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon the Chaldean: and he destroyed this house, and carried away the people to Babylon.

Go, and pray to the Lord for me, and for the remnant of Israel, and Juda, concerning all the words of this book, which is found. For the great wrath of the Lord hath fallen upon us, because our fathers have not kept the words of the Lord, to do all things that are written in this book.

Let thy ears be attentive, and thy eyes open, to hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, night and day, for the children of Israel thy servants. And I confess the sins of the children of Israel, by which they have sinned against thee: I and my father's house have sinned.

Did Ezechias king of Juda and all Juda condemn him to death? Did they not fear the Lord and beseech the face of the Lord? And the Lord repented of the evil that they had spoken against them. Therefore we are doing a great evil against our souls.

But if he beget a son who, seeing all his father's sins, which he hath done, is afraid and shall not do the like to them:

Our kings, our princes, our priests, and our fathers have not kept thy law, and have not minded thy commandments, and thy testimonies which thou hast testified among them.
