Thy father oppressed us with a most grievous yoke; do thou govern us with a lighter hand than thy father, who laid upon us a heavy servitude, and ease some thing of the burden, that we may serve thee.

Thy father laid a grievous yoke upon us. Now therefore do thou take off a little of the grievous service of thy father, and of his most heavy yoke, which he put upon us: and we will serve thee.

For this is the charity of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not heavy.

For they bind heavy and insupportable burdens, and lay them on men's shoulders; but with a finger of their own they will not move them.

I was angry with my people, I have polluted my inheritance and have given them into thy hand. Thou hast shewn no mercy to them: upon the ancient thou hast laid thy yoke exceeding heavy.

And they sent for him; and he came with all Israel. And they spoke to Roboam, saying:
