To be discreet, chaste, sober, having a care of the house, gentle, obedient to their husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

(For the name of God through you is blasphemed among the Gentiles, as it is written.)

But with modesty and fear, having a good conscience: that whereas they speak evil of you, they may be ashamed who falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

Having your conversation good among the Gentiles: that whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by the good works, which they shall behold in you, glorify God in the day of visitation.

Stand fast, and be not held again under the yoke of bondage.

Now therefore, why tempt you God to put a yoke upon the necks of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?

Who said: Cornelius, a centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and having good testimony from all the nation of the Jews, received an answer of an holy angel, to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.

And when the angel who spoke to him was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a soldier who feared the Lord, of them that were under him.

AND he said to his disciples: It is impossible that scandals should not come: but woe to him through whom they come.

For my yoke is sweet and my burden light.

The son honoureth the father, and the servant his master: if then I be a father, where is my honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the Lord of hosts.

I will therefore that the younger should marry, bear children, be mistresses of families, give no occasion to the adversary to speak evil.

Be without offence to the Jews, and to the Gentiles, and to the church of God:

But what went you out to see? a prophet? yea I tell you, and more than a prophet.

And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the Gentiles, which you have profaned in the midst of them: that the Gentiles may know that I am the Lord, saith the Lord of hosts, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.

And when they entered among the nations whither they went, they profaned my holy name, when it was said of them: This is the people of the Lord, and they are come forth out of his land.

Is not this rather the fast that I have chosen? Loose the bands of wickedness, undo the bundles that oppress. Let them that are broken go free: and break asunder every burden.

And now what have I here, saith the Lord: for my people is taken away gratis? They that rule over them treat them unjustly, saith the Lord, and my name is continually blasphemed all the day long.

I was angry with my people, I have polluted my inheritance and have given them into thy hand. Thou hast shewn no mercy to them: upon the ancient thou hast laid thy yoke exceeding heavy.

And the Levites, Josue and Cedmihel, Bonni, Hasebnia, Serebia, Oduia, Sebnia, and Phathahia, said: Arise, bless the Lord your God from eternity to eternity: and blessed be the high name of thy glory with all blessing and praise.

His servants came to him, and said to him: Father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, surely thou shouldst have done it. How much rather what he now hath said to thee: Wash, and thou shalt he clean?

Nevertheless, because thou hast given occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, for this thing, the child that is born to thee shall surely die.

Thou shalt serve thy enemy, whom the Lord will send upon thee, in hunger, and thirst, and nakedness, and in want of all things. And he shall put an iron yoke upon thy neck, till he consume thee.

Saying: Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who hath not taken away his mercy and truth from my master, and hath brought me the straight way into the house of my master's brother.

O Lord the God of my master Abraham, meet me to-day, I beseech thee, and shew kindness to my master Abraham.

And he said to the elder servant of his house, who was ruler over all he had: Put thy hand under my thigh,

And the angel of the Lord said to her: Return to thy mistress, and humble thyself under her hand.
