Now the Lord had revealed to the ear of Samuel the day before Saul came, saying:

And after that they desired a king: and God gave them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, forty years.

And Samuel said to Saul: The Lord sent me to anoint thee king over his people Israel; now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the Lord.

For the Lord God doth nothing without revealing his secret to his servants the prophets.

Then he openeth the ears of men, and teaching instructeth them in what they are to learn.

Because thou, O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to the ear of thy servant, saying: I will build thee a house. Therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer to thee.

And he said to him: God forbid, thou shalt not die: for my father will do nothing great or little, without first telling me. Hath then my father hid this word only from me? No: this shall not be.

For an angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, stood by me this night,

And when Samuel saw Saul, the Lord said to him: Behold the man, of whom I spoke to thee. This man shall reign over my people.

And they went up into the city. And when they were walking in the midst of the city, behold, Samuel was coming out over against them, to go up to the high place.

And the Lord again appeared in Silo for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel in Silo, according to the word of the Lord. And the word of Samuel came to pass to all Israel.
