Now, when David and his men were come to Siceleg on the third day, the Amalecites had made an invasion on the south side upon Siceleg, and had smitten Siceleg, and burnt it with fire.

So David and his men arose in the night, that they might set forward in the morning, and returned to the land of the Philistines. And the Philistines went up to Jezrahel.

And Saul smote Amalec from Hevila, until thou comest to Sur, which is over against Egypt.

But the princes of the Philistines were angry with him; and they said to him: Let this man return, and abide in his place, which thou hast appointed him. And let him not go down with us to battle, lest he be an adversary to us when we shall begin to fight: for how can he otherwise appease his master, but with our heads?

And the Lord said to Josue: Fear them not: for to-morrow at this same hour I will deliver all these to be slain in the sight of Israel. Thou shalt hamstring their horses, and thou shalt burn their chariots with fire.

And all his servants walked by him: and the bands of the Cerethi, and the Phelethi, and all the Gethites, valiant warriors, six hundred men who had followed him from Geth on foot, went before the king.

These helped David against the rovers: for they were all most valiant men, and were made commanders in the army.

And taking all the men, they went out to fight against Ismahel the son of Nathanias: and they found him by the great waters that are in Gabaon.

Therefore arise in the morning, thou, and the servants of thy lord, who came with thee; and when you are up before day, and it shall begin to be light, go on your way.

Moreover day by day there came some to David to help him till they became a great number, like the army of God.
