And the Lord said to Samuel: Look not on his countenance, nor on the height of his stature: because I have rejected him. Nor do I judge according to the look of man: for man seeth those things that appear, but the Lord beholdeth the heart.

Judge not according to the appearance, but judge just judgment.

I am the Lord who search the heart and prove the reins: who give to every one according to his way and according to the fruit of his devices.

And he said to them: You are they who justify yourselves before men, but God knoweth your hearts; for that which is high to men, is an abomination before God.

For the eyes of the Lord behold all the earth, and give strength to those who with a perfect heart trust in him. Wherefore, thou hast done foolishly, and for this cause from this time wars shall arise against thee.

Neither is there any creature invisible in his sight: but all things are naked and open to his eyes, to whom our speech is.

And thou, O Lord of hosts, prover of the just, who seest the reins and the heart: let me see, I beseech thee, thy vengeance on them, for to thee I have laid open my cause.

Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man: rescue me from the unjust man.

And I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am he that searcheth the reins and hearts, and I will give to every one of you according to your works. But to you I say,

Unto whom coming, as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen and made honourable by God:

Hast thou eyes of flesh? Or, shalt thou see as man seeth?

But thou, O Lord of Sabaoth, who judgest justly and triest the reins and hearts, let me see thy revenge on them: for to thee I have revealed my cause.

Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more the hearts of the children of men?

The Lord judgeth the people. Judge me, O Lord, according to my justice, and according to my innocence in me.

See the things that are according to outward appearance. If any man trust to himself, that he is Christ's, let him think this again with himself, that as he is Christ's, so are we also.

You judge according to the flesh: I judge not any man.

But to Cain and his offerings he had no respect: and Cain was exceedingly angry, and his countenance fell.

Do not multiply to speak lofty things, boasting: let old matters depart from your mouth. For the Lord is a God of all knowledge, and to him are thoughts prepared.

And what can David say more unto thee? For thou knowest thy servant, O Lord God.

Hear thou from heaven, from thy high dwelling-place, and forgive, and render to every one according to his ways, which thou knowest him to have in his heart (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men);

If thou say: I have not strength enough: he that seeth into the heart, he understandeth, and nothing deceiveth the keeper of thy soul, end he shall render to a man according to his works.

What can David add more, seeing thou hast thus glorified thy servant, and known him?

Look up to heaven and see, and behold the sky, that it is higher than thee.
