It repenteth me that I have made Saul king: for he hath forsaken me, and hath not executed my commandments. And Samuel was grieved, and he cried unto the Lord all night.

And Samuel said to Saul: Thou hast done foolishly, and hast not kept the commandments of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee. And if thou hadst not done thus, the Lord would now have established thy kingdom over Israel for ever.

It repented him that he had made man on the earth. And being touched inwardly with sorrow of heart,

And when the angel of the Lord had stretched out his hand over Jerusalem to destroy it, the Lord had pity on the affliction, and said to the angel that slew the people: It is enough. Now hold thy hand. And the angel of the Lord was by the thrashing-floor of Areuna the Jebusite.

Let them hasten and take up a lamentation for us: let our eyes shed tears and our eyelids run down with waters.

Trust in the Lord, and do good, and dwell in the land, and thou shalt be fed with its riches.

And Samuel saw Saul no more till the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul, because the Lord repented that he had made him king over Israel.

And Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the flocks of sheep and of the herds, and the garments and the rams, and all that was beautiful, and would not destroy them: but every thing that was vile and good for nothing, that they destroyed.

Now therefore go, and smite Amalec, and utterly destroy all that he hath. Spare him not, nor covet any thing that is his; but slay both man and woman, child and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

But my just man liveth by faith; but if he withdraw himself, he shall not please my soul.

But I say to you, Love your enemies: do good to them that hate you: and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you:

But if you will not hear this, my soul shall weep in secret for your pride: weeping it shall weep, and my eyes shall run down the tears, because the flock of the Lord is carried away captive.

Who will give water to my head and a fountain of tears to my eyes, and I will weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people?

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

He hath made a remembrance of his wonderful works, being a merciful and gracious Lord:

The Lord hath sworn, and he will not repent: Thou art a priest for ever according to the order of Melchisedech.

And far from me be this sin against the Lord, that I should cease to pray for you. And I will teach you the good and right way.

Thus saith all the people of the Lord: What meaneth this transgression? Why have you forsaken the Lord the God of Israel, building a sacrilegious altar, and revolting from the worship of him?

And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and he passed the whole night in the prayer of God.

But he that shall persevere to the end, he shall be saved.

And them that turn away from following after the Lord, and that have not sought the Lord, nor searched after him.

And he prayed to the Lord, and said: I beseech thee, O Lord, is not this what I said, when I was yet in my own country? therefore I went before to flee into Tharsis: for I know that thou art a gracious and merciful God, patient, and of much compassion, and easy to forgive evil.

And God saw their works, that they were turned from their evil way: and God had mercy with regard to the evil which he had said that he would do to them, and he did it not.

The Lord had pity upon this: It shall not be, said the Lord.

He said: I will destroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth, from man even to beasts, from the creeping thing even to the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

But Moses besought the Lord his God, saying: Why, O Lord, is thy indignation kindled against thy people, whom thou hast brought out of the land of Egypt, with great power, and with a mighty hand?

And the Lord was appeased from doing the evil which he had spoken against his people.

And the word was displeasing in the eyes of Samuel, that they should say: Give us a king, to judge us. And Samuel prayed to the Lord.

And the word of the Lord came to Samuel, saying:

And he sent an angel to Jerusalem, to strike it. And as he was striking it, the Lord beheld; and took pity for the greatness of the evil; and said to the angel that destroyed: It is enough. Now stop thy hand. And the angel of the Lord stood by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

Who as it were on purpose have revolted from him, and would not understand all his ways:

They are returned to the former iniquities of their fathers who refused to hear my words: so these likewise have gone after strange gods, to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Juda have made void my covenant which I made with their fathers.

And you are fallen back and have defiled my name: and you have brought back again every man his man-servant, and every man his maid-servant, whom you had let go free and set at liberty: and you have brought them into subjection to be your servants and handmaids.

But if the just man turn himself away from his justice and do iniquity according to all the abominations which the wicked man useth to work, shall he live? All his justices which he hath done shall not be remembered: in the prevarication by which he hath prevaricated and in his sin which he hath committed, in them he shall die.

And the Lord said to Samuel: How It long wilt thou mourn for Saul, whom I have rejected from reigning over Israel? Fill thy horn with oil, and come, that I may send thee to Isai the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his mind was turned away from the Lord the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,

So Saul died for his iniquities: because he transgressed the commandment of the Lord, which he had commanded, and kept it not, and moreover consulted also a witch,
