Therefore we also, from the day that we heard it, cease not to pray for you, and to beg that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will, in all wisdom, and spiritual understanding:
I give thanks to God, whom I serve from my forefathers with a pure conscience, that without ceasing, I have a remembrance of thee in my prayers, night and day.
Then hear thou them in heaven, and forgive the sins of thy servants, and of thy people Israel; and shew them the good way wherein they should walk; and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people in possession.
Thus saith the Lord: Stand ye on the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, which is the good way, and walk ye in it: and you shall find refreshment for your souls. And they said: We will not walk.
Then hear thou from heaven, O Lord, and forgive the sins of thy servants and of thy people Israel, and teach them the good way, in which they may walk; and give rain to thy land which thou hast given to thy people to possess.
And when the next day was come, Moses spoke to the people: You have sinned a very great sin. I will go up to the Lord, if by any means I may be able to entreat him for your crime.
And all the people greatly feared the Lord and Samuel. And all the people said to Samuel: Pray for thy servants to the Lord thy God, that we may not die; for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for a king.
And the Lord said to me: If Moses and Samuel shall stand before me, my soul is not towards this people. Cast them out from my sight and let them go forth.
But if they be prophets and the word of the Lord be in them: let them interpose themselves before the Lord of hosts, that the vessels which were left in the house of the Lord and in the house of the king of Juda and in Jerusalem may not go to Babylon.
And Jeremias the prophet said to them: I have heard you. Behold, I will pray to the Lord your God according to your words: and whatsoever thing he shall answer me, I will declare it to you, and I will hide nothing from you.
And thy ears shall hear the word of one admonishing thee behind thy back: This is the way; walk ye in it: and go not aside neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
